✨️ ROOK is a Brilliant View into Disability Representation & Fake Marriage!✨️
I loved being back in Shady Valley with Rook and these Henchmen! I've always had a soft spot for Rook, maybe it's the way his parole officer Nancy treats him, or why he actually went to prison (some other bad guys really do need to get theirs), but I was so happy to see him and Tessa get their HEA.
I will admit to being slightly suspicious of Tessa from the very beginning, who agrees to marry a biker (even only on paper), even if one is basically homeless? Especially a biker in a new town, from a new club that you do not know?
Once they worked it out Rook has Tessa going into the psych hospital where his mother got stuck and is checking on her regularly. This doesn't make miraculous changes, but it does help his Mama to become more regulated in her behavior and therapies while she's there.
Of course it can't all be sunshine and roses, and soon enough that bad feeling Rook has niggling in the back of his mind comes rushing forward when Tessa gets kidnapped by some really bad guy who has some really bad things planned for her as soon as he gets her back to New Mexico.
Once they find Tessa's car though, they're able to hack into her food service and and find out where her last delivery was, and get some help to her really quickly before they run off with her to New Mexico, now they just have to deal with the mean parole officer who can keep Rook from ever seeing his mom again. It turns out there was nothing to do with Nancy, she just eventually pulled her focus onto other new parolees because she could not pin anything on Rook.
I love the side characters in Rook, Diesel is so good at not only cooking food, but also having enlightening conversations with both Tessa and Rook - he was able to make then see what they were really feeling. Also Nix, and the rest of the 'club girls'. Tessa was expecting an angry, violent hierarchy, and instead they reached out to make friends with her.
There are so many aspects of ROOK that just make this book more beautiful, the disability rep, the fake marriage trope that forced Tessa and Rook to really take a closer look at each other's lives and find that there were a lot of pieces they really loved about each other. ROOK is definitely a five star read for me, and I hope we get back to Shady Valley soon!
