🐦‍🔥 Fabulous Persian Romantasy, so much Amgst, and IS there another MMC??🐦‍🔥

    Amalie Howard's Starlight Heir is one of my favorite books this year! Suraya is a young woman living with her parents in one section of this desert world, in the inn her father and Aunt run and she does Alchemy work on daggers. One day she gets invited to the Castle to vie for the Princes hand in marriage. As she's leaving a crone approaches her and warns her to be careful, as she's drawing what appears to be a star on Suraya's palm.

I love Suraya - the FMC, I felt sorry for her that there were so many people she loved that might be hurt if she didn't do things a certain way. I thought Suraya's magic was exquisite and heartfelt, the runes and the star magic were Enchanting every time we got to see it.

There are so many pieces to this book that will spoil it for other readers if I talk about it here, but yes there's another series of 'games and trials'. Unfortunately for the prince and his mother there's only one trial before things go seriously sideways and Suraya and the MMC are running for their lives.

I loved going through the portals and what they run into every time, the monsters are gross and disturbing, and things that push a young Star Queen (is she a Queen?) into doing things she doesn't want to do - the MMC is hiding who he really is, and infact lied about it to her multiple times and so did one of the girls she was in the deadly trials with. Why people think lying to someone 'for their own good' ever really solves anything is beyond me.

Every time Suraya decides that she's going to do something it feels like one of the angry fae like God's show up to explain to Suraya that everything has to be done through love and kindness, and no anger (even though so much anger has been flung her way.)

It took me until the epilogue to realize that there may be another MMC (the Shadow Daddy) out there, and the twist I realized right then had me crying for the next book right now!!
