🎧 The Audible of Audacity is FIRE!!🎧
I listened to an Advanced Listening Copy of Elodie Hart's Audacity with Shane East and Zara Hampton Brown performing the Duet Narration.
Firstly, Elodie has picked beautiful Narrators who I believe understood what she wanted the reader to see in Gabe and Athena from the outset, and never failed to deliver just that. Second, both Shane and Zara are capable of delivering both sexy AF and clearly loving emotions and I was so drawn in by them, they were absurdly wonderful. Third, the Audible was able to capture and keep my attention, drawing me back to the story time and again and making me fall more deeply in love with both Athena and Gabe (who I did not really expect to like as a former priest.)
"And I don’t for the slightest second think that loving the people your heart tells you to love can be anything but beautifully, perfectly right and also profoundly spiritual.’ - this line delivered by Gabe at one of his most low points, when he was tired and overworked, and had stayed on the clock about three hours past his time really shows him for who he is. A loving, kind man, willing to give of himself time and time again even though he's walked away from the priesthood. He's still giving advice and offering compassion when it's definitely most needed.
I adored Athena! Her bright spirit, and sense of joy about living, and being a part of the Seraph world made me love her even more. I had some moments of sadness when I felt like she was using the word 'whore' to separate herself from "catching feelings" too quickly with Gabe. I felt like it was a way of keeping her walls up, and that made me sad for her but maybe at that age that was the only acceptable avenue she felt she had open to her.
I could feel her emotions rising both in the Prima Nocta, and her dirty birthday party, as she got closer and closer to reaching that final plane of subspace, the only one she wanted was Gabe which made total sense. I loved bearing witness to her emotional breakdown, and their talk about catching feelings later on. It was just so sweet to hear Athena tell Gabe she didn't want anyone like Anton Wolff, she just wanted him.
I felt so sad about what could be considered the third act breakup here, BUT I feel like it was absolutely necessary. Gabe had to stand on his own, and we have to see if they can love each other for each other and not because they each feel the need to save the other. Gabe's bringing her to Alchemy for the last act was both beautiful, and necessary. I love the beauty of the love between them, and that no matter what they hold on to their original persona's.
Elodie Hart has made me see the Church in a different light, both questioning and beautiful, while still telling a Romance I'm desperately in love with. This will be one I listen to again for sure.
