π€✨️ A GORGEOUS Shifter Romance with hints of Outlander & Game Of Thrones!!✨️π€
I am a HUGE fan of PNR, especially wolf shifters and when @thtgrlreads recommended The Wolf King by New To Me Author Lauren Palphreyman, I thought why the heck not?
I was dragged in by everything from the gorgeous cover and a blurb that sounds like a Royal Princess gets hauled into some kennels, and held captive by the Wolf King, I was here for ALLLL of it!
This book isn't like anything I've read in a while, this isn't a dark academia shifter book, or a small American town where all the shifters live. It's more like a historical Romance, with flavors of Outlander (without the time travel) and Game of Thrones.
The Wolf King takes place in what we could guess would be their version of Scotland. The Princess, Aurora, is from Southfell and is betrothed to Sebastian. When the Wolf who is assumed to be the Wolf King steals her away in the night, he quickly reassures her that he is Callum from Northfell and he is NOT the Wolf King. The King, Aurora's father, and Sebastian, simply mistook him for the Wolf King when they gathered up all the wolves along the border and put them in their pens to fight.
Aurora is on of my favorite FMC's this year, she's not taking any crap off anyone, and every time Callum even tries to help her Aurora assumes he's got the wrong intentions at heart and pushes him away. Aurora is also stone cold, she's learned how to hide her emotions from when she was small so that the people around her could not see what she was feeling, so it shocks her when Callum can feel everything she's feeling right up front.
Callum is also one of my favorite MMC's. I went into this thinking he was morally grey, and maybe he started out to be, but pretty quickly he turns into a good guy. There's nothing bad about this guy. Even when he's having really STRONG Wolf feelings towards Aurora, he generally pulls back because he wants the decision to always be hers - even if she doesn't know she has the decisions right now.
The reason I mentioned Game of Thrones, there's a Wolf named Blake, very sexy, VERY DARK - absolutely morally grey, and he reminds me of Little Finger. Throughout The Wolf King, Blake has his own interests, and he's definitely playing his own game. Even if he saves Aurora a few times, it may never be because he wants her for himself or because he wants to be nice to her.
And please remember, nothing is really as it seems. Even Aurora isn't exactly who she seems, and she has the power to take care of business in the end. This doesn't really end on a cliffhanger, this could just be a standalone, but I find myself begging Lauren Palphreyman to make this at least a duology, if not an entire series! I went through The Wolf King in two days, it is THAT GOOD - I just couldn't put it down!!
So, if you're looking for a new PNR, Shifter Romance, this is definitely the book for you!!
