🖤🕸 Spellbinding Strangers To Lovers!!🕸🖤
Kelsey Kingsley's Spider & The Storm is haunting and spellbinding. There were pages within the first two chapters that I was already crying for Charlie Corbin, and disgusted with the people that surrounded him.
Charlie is a fabulous, torn, misunderstood MMC. He doubts everything he does, but he also allows himself to really grieve which you don't see often in any kind of fiction. In his first introduction to Stormy, I was so scared for both of them, that he would not make it to her in time, AND that he would take it too far in protecting her.
Stormy is just wonderful, her immediate understanding of Charlie, and her love for him just made me weep. I loved that she wanted to keep coming back, and that she asked his consent every time before she did. Stormy is also the person who realizes who she is to Charlie, and what she can give him.
When I finally realized during their sexy times that she WAS taking charge and that was exactly what Charlie needed I crowed with delight. It is so hard to find well written scenes where the mmc allows the fmc to take control in every instance there, and Kingsley gave us an amazing work of art. It is so easy to visualize the spider taking refuge within the storm, it is just beautiful!
I love the secondary characters, going back to Soldier, Blake, and even Stormy's parents (even though that part is very difficult), Stormy sharing her demons gives Charlie the ease to share his own sadness and what has happened to him. I loved that Soldier was there to be both a comfort, and a push, and that her parents have finally grown through all of their earlier pain.
Kelsey Kingsley is an AMAZING Artist, I know I had been waiting for The Spider and The Storm for what felt like centuries, but I'm so thankful for such a magnificent ride! I'm already looking forward to whatever she and her pen deliver next.
*TW: If dealing with death, abuse, and abuse of a possibly mentally ill/neuro divergent child is not in your wheelhouse then this one might not be for you. That said it is a fantastic rep of mental health, neurodivergent, death, drug, and alcoholism issues, and abuse.*
