🦪 Kate Canterbary's Shucked is A Fabulous Enemies To Lovers!!🦪

Shucked is the second book I've read by Kate Canterbary, and merely confirms my belief that I would love everything she wrote, yes, even if it came on the back of a cereal box!

Sunny and Beckett are my favorite kind of enemies to lovers with both characters being grouchy to one another,  before it is patently clear that they are both having deep feelings for each other.

Sunny's grouchy behavior is justified, at least in her eyes, based on Beckett and her brother's behavior toward her as a child at the height of her working through a serious disability. Sunny also believes that Beckett is working to destroy her vegan restaurant when in actuality a lot of it is either wild animals or the work of vandals, but there is no convincing her of this, even as Sunny starts to fall a little deeper herself for the grouchy oysterman.

Beckett is a grouch throughout the book, this is true, but OMW y'all, he's the most tortured grouch I've read in the last year perhaps and MAN (!) does he have his reasons!! Beckett has always been the only one his family can rely on, including his parents, and this time his parents have well and truly effed everything up. He can't count on his brother Decker, who seems to be having his own problems, and it’s not fair to land everything on his younger brother's head so Beckett is just sweeping things up as best he can.

My favorite part in the whole book is when Beckett takes up for Sunny when her parents come flying to the rescue after an accident Sunny is involved in. Beckett smoothes everything over, calms them down and then takes Sunny home where he gives her the best bath - even paying attention to how her hair needs to be washed. He obviously is in love with Sunny, but he doesnt plan on staying in Friendship, and he has no idea how to tell her either of these things.

The secondary characters in Shucked are flat out AMAZING!! I love the other part owners in Sunny's restaurant, Naked, and The Chef and Mel at SPOC are inspired! The relationship between Mel (SPOC) and Beth (Naked) is funny, sarcastic, and sweet and seems to be almost a mirror image of Sunny and Beckett's relationship. Beckett's relationship with his younger brother Parker is just as fun because I think we can all see the craziness in a relationship with a younger sibling and the frustration that can go on throughout that time frame. I love how many people are constantly trying to stick up for both Beckett and Sunny, and how each of them just keep ignoring the help offered.

Kate Canterbary's writing is funny, witty, sarcastic and in the end shows a loving pair - they just had to find their way through the mess to one another. I also think the disability representation is flawless! I loved every minute of this fast paced ride, and I can't WAIT to see what happens next!
