🖤🌧 My Favorite Book & Character So Far This Year, Definitely Kelsey Kingsley's Most FABULOUS Novel To Date!!🌧🖤

Kelsey Kingsley has written my favorite book this year, and in my opinion her best book yet, with Saving Rain.

An amazing story beginning at Soldier's birth, he was told time and again he was there to save his mother, that's why she thought she had him, or maybe that's what she thought he was capable of from the very beginning. No one was ever there to save him though, even the grandparents who kept him fed and clothed and loved during an early portion of his life didn’t protect him by removing the very thing that was damamaging their home life, and putting them all at risk because they couldn't bear to put their foot down with her (not really.)

What struck me the most was Soldier's calm acceptance of how life was going to be, no matter what came his way. The only time he really lost it was when it came to saving someone other than himself. The sorrow I felt for him as he stood in his tiny bedroom, knowing his mother had taken advantage again and expected him to fix it all, and he was still basically a child, and then again with the police officer and the judge. It was as if though everyone looking at him, except his mother, could see how good and kind he really was, and what he could have done with his life had she not so desperately screwed it all up.

I'm not diminsihing Soldier's responsibility at all, and in fact that is one of the things that makes me love hime even more is his absolute NEED to take responsibility for the things he did wrong. Ms. Kingsley's ability to hold up his own sins to the light, and not hide them even though it's obvious we're meant to love him for who and what he is, shows her strength as a writer to not want to wipe away all the errors he made as well.

Soldier's relationship with Ray and Noah, and his found family in their little community is absolutely breathtaking. It shows an extreme amount of dedication to craft though that Ms. Kingsley didn’t attempt to sugarcoat the world that ex-felons face upon their release, or make it a happy sunshiny place for him from the beginning.

There are so many more things I could say about this phenomenal book, but you need to experience it for yourself. You need to know Soldier, and then you'll understand why he is my favorite character so far this year. Kelsey Kingsley has written the most perfect morally grey character I've read in years, and I would give him ten stars if i could!!
