Wrathful Souls is one of the hardest of Anne Malcom's books I've read in the last several years. Don't get me wrong, Anne's illustrious writing shines throughout the entire novel, it's simply that Sariah and Colby are in so much pain for the first half that I wondered if this was THE book that I would have to cut and run on.

I love that Colby persevered, that he never gave up on Sariah, while at the same time giving her the space she needed to heal from her experience with Granger. When he found her, he never expected her to remain the same Sariah he found in the desert. Colby wanted her to become a whole new Sariah, and did she surprise him by joining him in that new life!

The trip to Utah, and the healing that took place there was so kind, and sweet, and unexpected. I expected anger, and wrath, judgment and the same home Sariah left, but perhaps some parents do grow and see what they can have if they love their child through it. The tenderness toward both Cody and Sariah in those moments was a beautiful thing, and helped me believe that might be there for me one day - even though rationally, I know not to expect it.

All in all Wrathful Souls is an exquisitely, Heartbreaking romance that comes with a sea of painful triggers, but if you are strong enough to walk through the dark then there is such a beautiful sunrise at the end. It just might not look like what you've expected with a Happily Ever After before. Regardless, Anne Malcom is writing superb, rich characters that will stick with you for a good long while. This is the epitome of a book hangover, be gentle with yourselves for a while after.
