🌲🔮 Older Characters, Romantic Suspense with a wacky paranormal twist!!🌲🔮

Kristen Ashley's newest Romantic Suspense, The Woman By The Lake, hits several high notes for me right off the bat! I love Romantic Suspense, and older characters (by older, I mean my age and just a little younger, so older middle age?)I also loved the idea of paranormal activities going on at the lake.

I adored Nadia's snark from the very beginning, even though it was apparent to me that she's covering up a very grief-stricken and fear-ridden heart, telling Riggs he's not allowed to jog on her path on the lake when there's really no path there and they hadn't even really met yet. Nadia is determined to drive away any unknown person so she can get down to the business of grieving, but she keeps getting interrupted either by unknown scratching on her windows at 3 in the morning or Riggs loud, music-laden parties at midnight another night, and she has had enough!

While Riggs was feeling protective of Nadia from the beginning those feeling faded to dust when showed up at his house at 6am with a boom box playing her kind of music, I swear I laughed out loud!!

When Nadia ran into Kimmmy (the local paranormal tin hat wearing advice giver!🫣) in town, Riggs protective instincts start running high again because he doesn't really WANT her to know why no one else would rent or buy her house for the last twenty years. He, of course, hasn't had those problems at his house yet so they must not be true!

From then on its a roller coaster as Nadia and Riggs get closer to what's actually going on around her property, what's going on with Riggs private life, and the Sheriff has to get involved again with everything because it's even more clear the former sheriff did NOT know how to do his job.

As Riggs and Nadia get closer, and the Romance around them builds, can she open up completely about her former life and how to love again? Really, can either one of them?

If you love Kristen Ashley, and Romantic Suspense with older characters then this book is for you!! I'd probably take a look in the first two in the Misted Pines Series just so you're up to snuff on what's going on, but there are probably enough explanations in this book about the previous ones that you wouldn't actually be 'lost'. That's just my preference.
