  What Grows Dies Here has touched my soul and moved me more than any book I've read in 2022.

Anne Malcom's writing in this book will bring you to tears, and show you her growth as a writer. I cannot imagine how hard it is to write something so infinitely close to your heart, and at the same time tell a love story about two people fighting to stay together, while their hearts are trying to tear them apart. 

Wren is everything I'd want in a friend, sweetness, light, funny, and caring - but she cannot see it in herself. No matter how much she gives, builds, works for her charities, she's always seeing a little girl who's never experienced any real trauma, and no matter what Karson tells her she doesn't believe him.

Karson is the perfect man for Wren, he forces her to see herself, takes care of her when she won't take care of herself, and keeps feeding her the words she needs to hear. But once trauma invades both their lives he can't see a way to help her, she must finally help herself, even as he waits in the shadows.

This book was such a heartwrenching ride, but throughout there is a feeling of survival and strength, how one struggles to get up and keep going every day no matter the heartbreak in their lives. I'm just in awe of Wren and Karson's strength and belief that there is better coming for them, even if they can't see it right now.
