4.5 stars for this true crime gem!!
"It was always better to be safe than dismembered and wrapped up in someone's freezer, that was my motto."
Getting back to Jessica Gadziala's The Professionals is always a highlight, and The Cleaner is no exception! I've been looking forward to Finn's story for for so long, and Poppy is his perfect foil: her strengths fit his weaknesses and vice versa. If only he'd met her the right way!
Finn is the quiet in the busy storm of the rest of The Professionals he works with, but sometimes that quiet can hide a storm of its own, and Finn has a host of issues he works meticulously to keep under lock and key. Having Poppy suddenly imposed into every facet of his life, no matter that he LOVES having her there, is forcing those issues closer to the surface.
Poppy is a delight! Almost a throwback to original characters like Sugar's Peyton, Poppy is a true crime addict running a successful podcast making a living without having to physically engage with people in the real world. Poppy has her own issues, convinced she's found a serial killer in Navesink Bank - which for the record wouldn't be too far of a stretch, but her evidence is so far off the beaten path she's found someone she never should have run up on.
Jessica always gets me with the suspense, and dry humor, in her books! There were several points where either Bellamy, Hudson, or the actual bad guy were popping up and I had chills up the back of my neck! I love the new additions to the team, and the epilogue is BRILLIANT, Bellamy strikes again!
