There really are no adequate words. Author M. Robinson has taken the blood and heart of the original El Diablo, inspired him with the spirit of his mother and his wife, and birthed Crucifixio Martinez. God help us if I thought he would be more patient or kind than his father.
Cruz Martinez might have had a normal life, but in an effort to save one beautiful girl from a vermin of a man, he lost one of only two beings he and his father found fundamentally worth everything. And in so doing his enemies bore witness to the rebirth of The Devil.
Sienna pays for the loss of one of Alejandro Martinez's most loved creations and she is not happy about it, and in turn decides to make Cruz's life a living hell. But the Devil doesn't mind hell when he's already reigning there, and he'll show Sienna exactly where her place is.
"For a second, I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me. He was showing me all his emotions which heβd never done before."
In the middle of the wars, blood, and Five Families sacrifices, I was surprised and thankful for the sweetness of the quiet love and respect finally blooming between Sienna and Cruz, before he burned the whole thing down. His sweetness, even in the face of his foul mouth and aggressive sexuality could not be missed, and I was glad it was a lesson learned well from both his parents.
I was absolutely floored with every twist and turn, but it truly was the definition and description in the last 12% of M. Robinson's latest book that had me flipping back and forth to make absolutely sure that I didn't miss a single piece. This author made sure that she had every needed player in place before that last doorknob was turned, and suddenly I was wishing for an ending I wasn't entirely sure I was going to get.
The ending is surprising, stunning, and as always a heck of a ride from Ms. Robinson. I think I might be more in love with Crucifixio than I was with Alejandro. This slow burn is worth at least 6 stars!
